Multi-Touch Sensing through LED Matrix Displays

Warning : this post is not flash/flex related. ;-)While reading up on Ubi’s blog, I found this really, really, really cool application of led’s, using them in a form I could not have imagined them being used.http://mrl.nyu.edu/%7Ejhan/ledtouch/index.htmlMeanwhile in Amsterdam, our latest project is slowly coming to it’s final stage. I’ve been working day, night and weekends getting this thing finished, together with our contractors, sub contractors and 3rd party suppliers. Although it feels like this thing is using every last drop of energy and time I have, I am very proud and happy with the project. Expect a publication of this for me very special Flash 8 / Flash Video site in the next 2 days. I’ll post it here. We’ve got alot of experience in Flash 8 Video doing this project, and we are planning to do some tutorials/guidelines here. Keep on watching this space.

Running Flash on XBOX 360 : update 1; DIY & who created the player ?

Happy New Year, visitor ! I’ve just decided on getting myself a “new years present”. It will be a XBOX 360, coz’ it actually does run Flash, as this thread on xbox-scene.com now states. ;-) The people at gloei.nl have put up a wiki on how to create your own homebrew Flash Files, and how to get them up and running on your XBOX 360. I’m sure the XBOX community could use some help on how to create swf’s for this Platform. The thread also makes note on the fact the player runs 6, but is missing the 6 event model, essentially stripping it down to 5, could someone create a version of ACK / FLEM or J:ACK for the modders at XS ? ;-) As far as legalities go; no, it isn’t legal to run this content for your XBOX, since it modifies compiled binaries, but who’s stopping you from creating a Flash project, or releasing a compiled swf ? The exploit that enabled you to do this has been created by the people at Microsoft, as you could read in my first post on this subject, but who created the player?

Several posts in the thread point out that the player is extremly buggy, and seem alpha. JD commented on my last post and noted that there hasn’t been any official communication on the release of this player from Adobe. Well, isn’t that interresting? We’ve got a sub-release-quality player, and no official reports by Adobe. Maybe I’m going to far on the speculation that MS have ported/created their own Flash Player for the XBOX 360? ;-) Let’s delve further into this theory….

XBOX 360 runs homebrew flash files ? That’s l337!

Not really back from the dead yet, but during work, my rss reader popped up this news, which should interrest the readers of this blog. So, what’s the news ? Xbox-scene.com reports that the console hacker community got their hands on a demo disc meant for display purposes on XBOX 360 shop kiosks and this disc will run even if it’s copied/burned on a DVD5R disc. This might not seem very significant, but the datafiles on the disc aren’t protected either. Still not very interresting for the Flash community. But then the news item reports on the “Live arcade games”. Turns out the game ‘hexic’ is a swf/flash file. Since the datafiles (movies, sounds, swf’s etc.) on this disc are not signed, this could mean running your own homebrew flashes on the XBOX 360, just by replacing the original swf with your own, and then reburning the image. At least it means one thing : the Flash player is ported to the xbox 360. Now I would like to know; which version, and with what kind of capabilities?

Obligatory legal note : unitzeroone.com is not involved in hacking/cracking anything, neither does it support or encourage anyone to do so..

Since this post is one in a very long long while : I will return to the land of the living soon after this huge, huge project. Posting will be on a regular rate again. Also I got some very nice 8.5 sources lying around waiting to get posted, so Jan. 2006 is going to be a happy month on unitzeroone.com. Hope to see you all here again then. Until then : Happy New Year!
