XBOX 360 runs homebrew flash files ? That’s l337!
Not really back from the dead yet, but during work, my rss reader popped up this news, which should interrest the readers of this blog. So, what’s the news ? Xbox-scene.com reports that the console hacker community got their hands on a demo disc meant for display purposes on XBOX 360 shop kiosks and this disc will run even if it’s copied/burned on a DVD5R disc. This might not seem very significant, but the datafiles on the disc aren’t protected either. Still not very interresting for the Flash community. But then the news item reports on the “Live arcade games”. Turns out the game ‘hexic’ is a swf/flash file. Since the datafiles (movies, sounds, swf’s etc.) on this disc are not signed, this could mean running your own homebrew flashes on the XBOX 360, just by replacing the original swf with your own, and then reburning the image. At least it means one thing : the Flash player is ported to the xbox 360. Now I would like to know; which version, and with what kind of capabilities?
